In Cold Comfort, players will encounter many different NPC’s (Non Player Characters). Some NPC’s play a bigger role in the story progression than others. These individuals can help or hinder players.
JAKOB WELLS
A young and idealistic doctor who works as a bio-technician for Vyal. He comes from a very wealthy and renowned family from Chicago. His father served as Chief Surgeon at Chicago Northeastern Memorial Hospital.
Jakob decided to follow in his father’s footsteps, and become a doctor as well. After medical school, he volunteered his services in Africa with a number of health organizations.
During his time in Africa, he was headhunted by Vyal to be apart of their vaccination research program. Seeing this as a wonderful opportunity to further his altruistic goals, he jumped at the offer.
He has now been working as a research assistant for the last 4 years in Vyal’s South American research facility. Throughout his time with Vyal, he has become more and more disillusioned, coming to the conclusion that Vyal’s one true goal is purely economic gain, not the embetterment of society. This has led Jakob to become very bitter and resentful of the company.

MATTHEW MCDONALD
Matthew McDonald was born and raised in Rochester, New York, and enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17. He became a UDT Frogman in 1994, serving on two UDT Teams. He was chosen as one of the first SEALs, becoming Chief of the Boat of newly created SEAL Team FIVE in 1997. Starting in 2001 and 2002, McDonald completed two combat deployments during the War in Afhanistan, where he earned the Bronze Star for heroic action. In 2003, he founded Tytan Security Systems (TSS).
